Play guitar like Polyphia

Design and apply a structured, metronome-based practice routine for developing new techniques, starting with alternate picking speed on your 7-string guitar.

Apply fretting-hand and picking-hand muting techniques to eliminate unwanted noise during fast passages on a 7-string guitar.

Execute smooth, multi-string legato runs (hammer-ons and pull-offs) with consistent dynamics.

Perform wide melodic interval jumps (octaves and larger) with picking accuracy at moderate tempos.

Execute a two-bar pattern alternating on-beat and off-beat 16th note accents to a metronome to develop rhythmic precision.

Consolidate hybrid picking mechanics by executing consistent pick-and-middle-finger patterns across adjacent and non-adjacent strings.

Perform multi-string arpeggios and scalar patterns using a consistent hybrid picking sequence with clean articulation.

Execute hybrid picked rolls and banjo-style patterns with rhythmic accuracy.

Combine hybrid picking with palm muting for percussive articulation in rhythmic phrases.

Execute a phrase that uses hybrid picking to sustain a note on one string while playing a melody on other strings.

Execute a simple riff in a 5/4 time signature with a consistent groove.

Execute a simple riff in a 7/8 time signature with a consistent groove.

Internalize and clap a 3-against-4 polyrhythm against a quarter-note pulse.

Execute a 3-against-4 polyrhythm on a single string using a metronome.

Apply a 3-against-4 polyrhythm to a simple three-note melodic pattern across two strings.

Refine one-hand tapping technique on a single string to achieve consistent tone and precise rhythmic placement using syncopated patterns.

Perform tapped major and minor triad arpeggios across three adjacent strings.

Combine one-hand tapping with legato (hammer-ons and pull-offs) in a single, continuous phrase.

Transition smoothly between picked notes and tapped notes within a melodic line.

Integrate slides and controlled string bends initiated by either hand within a tapped phrase for expressive articulation.

Execute a two-hand tapping pattern with both hands in rhythmic unison on your 7-string guitar.

Tap a simple melody with the right hand while holding a static bass note with the left hand.

Tap a simple, moving bass line with the left hand while tapping a repetitive melodic pattern with the right hand.

Execute a four-note descending cascading tapping pattern across three strings.

Execute a consistent thumb-slap (thump) on the low F string of your 7-string guitar to a metronome, achieving a clear percussive tone.

Combine the thumb-slap with a finger-pluck on a high string in a coordinated rhythmic pattern (thump-and-pluck).

Execute syncopated rhythmic patterns using left-hand muting to create 'dead notes'.

Perform percussive tapping by integrating muted strikes between melodic taps in a single phrase.

Execute syncopated, trap-influenced hi-hat patterns on muted strings to a metronome.

Integrate trap-style rhythmic accents into a simple melodic riff.

Construct movable voicings for major 7th, minor 7th, and dominant 7th chords on the middle four strings.

Construct 9th, 11th, and 13th chord voicings on the higher strings of your 7-string that maintain clarity in Drop F tuning.

Construct and play quartal and quintal harmony voicings in simple progressions.

Identify the diatonic chords of a major key and its parallel minor key as a basis for modal interchange.

Apply modal interchange by borrowing and resolving a chord from the parallel minor key in a major key progression (e.g., Cmaj7 - Fmaj7 - Abmaj7 - G7).

Embellish pentatonic scale melodies with chromatic approach notes targeting chord tones.

Analyze the fretboard layout and interval relationships in Drop C# tuning on your Gibson SG.

Adapt a multi-string tapping pattern from standard tuning to Drop C# tuning.

Adapt a hybrid picking pattern from standard tuning to Drop C# tuning.

Construct three distinct chord voicings that exploit the open strings in Drop C# tuning.

Analyze a 4-bar section from a Polyphia song in Drop C# to identify its use of one non-functional harmony technique (e.g., chord planing, chromatic root movement).

Compose a short four-bar chord progression applying the non-functional harmony technique identified in the analysis.

Compose an 8-bar melodic phrase combining hybrid picking with complex rhythmic syncopation over a modern chord progression.

Compose a 4-bar tapped passage integrating multi-string tapping with legato, slides, and precise string muting.

Compose a 4-bar riff on your 7-string that combines thumb slaps with trap-influenced muted picking patterns.

Draft an 8-bar phrase in the style of Polyphia that integrates two-hand tapping, rhythmic complexity, and one non-functional harmonic technique.
